MBBS, MD, DNB, Fellow of the International College of Laparoscopic Surgeons
Dr. Hafeez Rahman Padiyath is the Founding Chairman of Sunrise Group of Hospitals and one of the world's foremost pioneers in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. Over more than three decades of surgical practice spanning India and seven countries across three continents, Dr. Hafeez has performed more than 2,00,000 laparoscopic surgeries — including 35,000+ laparoscopic hysterectomies, a figure that stands as a verified global record. He was among the first surgeons anywhere in India to conduct live surgery broadcasts, and has pioneered procedures — including Amniopatch, Meshplasty, and laparoscopic oncosurgery — that have changed the standard of care across South Asia and beyond.
Born with a vision to bring world-class minimally invasive surgical care to Kerala, Dr. Hafeez founded Sunrise in 2005 as a 20-bed hospital with two departments. Today it is a network of seven hospitals, 36 specialties, and 300+ doctors — built on the surgical standards he set from day one. His commitment to surgical education is equally remarkable: more than 10,000 gynaecologists and surgeons from across the world have trained under his direct guidance — from Malaysia and the UAE to South Africa and Bangladesh — through structured programmes at Sunrise that remain among the most sought-after surgical fellowships in South Asia.
A leader not only in the operating theatre but in the institutional governance of Indian medicine, Dr. Hafeez has served as the Youngest Secretary and Youngest Chairman of FOGSI — the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India, the largest medical society in the country. He is the Founder Vice President of IMAGE — the Gynaecological Endoscopy Society of India — and the Honorary Secretary of the Indian Faculty of Endoscopy. In April 2026, he conducted LEGENDS Go Live — a four-day international gynaecology conference at Sunrise — cementing his position as one of the most influential figures in global laparoscopic surgical education.
