Advanced Heart and Chest Care — Backed by Technology and Experience

The Department of Cardiology & Thoracic Surgery at Sunrise brings together experienced cardiologists, interventional specialists, and cardiothoracic surgeons to provide comprehensive care for heart, lung, and chest conditions. Our newly inaugurated Cath Lab — one of the most advanced in the region — enables real-time cardiac imaging, angioplasty, and stenting. Sunrise holds the distinction of being the first hospital in Kerala to offer Volume CT and Cardiac CT, and our cardiothoracic team includes Dr. Nasser Yusuf — a gold medallist who performed the first coronary bypass surgery in Malabar in 1998 — and Dr. John E.V., a senior cardiothoracic surgeon with decades of clinical experience.

Treatments and procedures

01

Coronary Angiography & Angioplasty

Diagnostic and interventional procedures for blocked coronary arteries, allowing the heart's blood vessels to be examined and treated in the same procedure, restoring healthy blood flow quickly.

02

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)

Open-heart surgery to restore blood flow to the heart by bypassing blocked arteries, a well-established procedure that significantly reduces the risk of heart attack and improves long-term heart function.

03

Cardiac CT & Volume CT

Advanced, non-invasive cardiac imaging that provides highly detailed pictures of the heart and its blood vessels, first introduced in Kerala by Sunrise to support faster, more accurate diagnosis.

04

Echocardiography

Ultrasound imaging of the heart used to diagnose structural and functional conditions, giving doctors a clear, real-time view of how well the heart is pumping and functioning.

05

Interventional Cardiology

Catheter-based procedures including stenting and balloon angioplasty, treating blocked or narrowed arteries without the need for open surgery and allowing for a much faster recovery.

06

Pacemaker Implantation

Surgical implantation of cardiac pacemakers for patients with rhythm disorders, restoring a normal, steady heartbeat and significantly improving quality of life and daily activity levels.

07

VATS (Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery)

Minimally invasive chest surgery for lung and pleural conditions, performed through small incisions with a camera-guided approach that reduces pain and shortens overall recovery time.

08

Valve Repair & Replacement

Surgical correction of damaged or diseased heart valves, restoring proper blood flow through the heart and relieving symptoms that can otherwise significantly limit a patient's daily life.

09

Thoracic Oncosurgery

Surgical management of lung and chest cancers, combining precise tumour removal with a multidisciplinary approach to give patients the best possible chance at long-term recovery.

10

Management of Arrhythmias

Diagnosis and treatment of irregular heart rhythms, ranging from medication and lifestyle guidance to advanced procedures, helping restore a safe and stable heartbeat for every patient.

Warning signs include chest pain or tightness, pain radiating to the arm, jaw, or back, shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, and dizziness. If you experience any of these, call our Emergency line immediately on +91 9946000911.

A Cath Lab (Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory) is a specialised room with imaging equipment used to visualise the heart's arteries and perform interventional procedures like angioplasty and stenting. Having a Cath Lab on-site means life-saving procedures can happen without any delay.

Not always. Depending on the number and location of blockages, angioplasty with stenting may be sufficient. Your cardiologist will evaluate your condition and recommend the most appropriate treatment after a thorough assessment.

Adults over 40, those with a family history of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol should have a cardiac evaluation at least once a year. Our Sunrise CardioWell health package is designed specifically for this purpose.
